Welcome to My Quirky World

Mine is a world where art speaks louder than words. Every piece has a story to tell, a story that transcends time and tradition.  I embrace the beauty of imperfection:  asymmetry reigns supreme and flaws are celebrated as character. I am particularly moved by the female figure, as she represents the energy of creation and compassion.

“I strive to showcase the joys and mysteries in life”

Those found in nature and also within ourselves. Sometimes this manifests in the spiritual realm via timeless symbols or yogic practices. Other times I get downright nerdy, exploring art through the lens of science.

Inspiration

Cyprus fertility goddess 3000-2500 B.C

My work is inspired by ancient ceramic and stone figures unearthed across all human cultures.  Symbols, goddesses, animal totems, and ritualistic figurines call to me in my quest to understand the mysteries.

I create my works in my studio located in an historic building in downtown Cincinnati.  I’ve been fortunate to have had several careers spanning from business to social work, which, along with my passion for the arts, allow me to tap into an unending supply of ideas for my art. My relationships as mother and grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend provide experience and influence my work as well.

My Process

I hand build with clay using coils, slabs, and sculpting tools.  I then kiln fire at least twice.  I paint with colored slips, stains, and my own glazes. Sometimes I finish with acrylic paint, waxes, wire, beads and found objects.  Throughout, it is necessary to listen to fun and inspiring music to set the mood and infuse my pieces with positive energy.
